Welcome to the Antiquarium of Mylae
We are delighted to guide you through this unique exhibition, where antiquity and contemporaneity intertwine in a fascinating and timeless dialogue. Our goal is to unite the ancient works found in the Antiquarium with our contemporary creations, using an ancient material like ceramics to offer a new interpretation of the world and the myths that have inspired us.
First Stop: Polyphemus
Our journey begins with the installation of Polyphemus. This extraordinary iron work, containing fish and topped with a ceramic eye with a gold leaf iris, represents the primordial force of the Cyclops from Greek mythology. Polyphemus watches us with his penetrating gaze, reminding us of the deep mythological roots of Milazzo.
Second Stop: The Magic Eye of Milazzo
Continuing on, we immerse ourselves in the magic eye of Milazzo, also known as the scarab. This ancient symbol of prosperity and protection connects us to the values and traditions of the Greeks. Through our ceramic art, we aim to create a bridge between the past and the contemporary, demonstrating how history can come alive in our hands.
Third Stop: The Hearts of Silicy
In the various rooms of the Antiquarium, you will find our ceramic hearts, the distinctive mark of our brand, Silicy. These hearts represent the beating heart of our art, combining tradition and innovation in a single artwork. Each heart symbolizes the love, passion, and vitality that we infuse into each of our creations.
Fourth Stop: The Suaglass
Continuing the journey, you will encounter the seau à glace, works depicting the three main Greek deities: Poseidon, Aphrodite, and Ares. These seau à glace capture the majesty and strength of the Olympian gods, transporting us through centuries of myth and mystery. Ceramics thus become a powerful storytelling medium, capable of evoking millennia-old stories.
Fifth Stop: The Apples of Discord
Our journey concludes with the three ceramic apples: one in gold leaf, one white, and one red. The apples represent the legend of the goddess Eris. The apple thrown by Eris during the banquet in honor of the wedding of Peleus and Thetis caused a quarrel among the present goddesses, symbolizing the strife and rivalry that characterize our history. Through this artistic reinterpretation, we reflect on the constant tension between opposing forces and the eternal search for balance and harmony.
In this exhibition, we have traversed eras and myths, exploring the deep roots of Milazzo and celebrating its cultural heritage. We hope that our journey inspires you to rediscover the past, to value the present, and to look to the future with new, hopeful eyes.
